Where the money sits in a product, and which parts drive it.
How cost is calculated
Parts carry a price. Everything above them adds up.
An assembly's cost is the sum of
quantity × costfor each of its lines. Apply that at every level and you get the product's cost.
You never enter a cost on an assembly. Partix always works it out, so it cannot drift away from the parts underneath it.
Contribution by immediate child
The chart splits the product's cost across its immediate children.
Immediate children are used instead of a flat part breakdown because this is the only split that adds up to the total once. A shared subassembly reached through several paths would otherwise be counted several times.
The headline figures

| Unique part numbers | How many different items there are, counting a shared one once. |

The gap between line items and unique part numbers tells you how much reuse there is in the design.
Top cost drivers
The Top cost drivers list shows the parts that cost you the most, by extended cost (price × total quantity across the whole tree).
Only parts appear here. An assembly's cost is already made up of the parts inside it, so listing both would count the same money twice.
Where to start on a cost-down
The driver list is ordered by total spend, not unit price. A cheap part used two hundred times often beats an expensive one used once.
