Troubleshooting
The messages Partix shows when it refuses something, and what to do about each.
Adding and editing
- "Already a line under that parent; edit its quantity instead."
- The parent already has this item. A parent holds each item once, with a quantity. Change the existing line instead of adding a second one.
- "A revision cannot contain itself."
- You tried to add an item into itself. Not possible.
- "Moving X there would create a cycle."
- The target is somewhere inside the thing you are moving, so the move would make a loop. Adding an item higher up the same branch is fine. Only the things inside it are barred.
- "This line belongs to a committed revision. Edit the staged draft instead."
- You are in the Committed Area. Switch to the Staging Area.
- I cannot edit the part number, version or revision.
- That is correct; they are locked everywhere. Identity is assigned at commit and fixed by every line pointing at the item. Change it in commit review instead.
- I cannot type a cost on an assembly.
- An assembly's cost is always the sum of its lines. Edit the price on the parts inside it.
Searching and finding
- Nothing appears when I search for a part.
- Part search starts at two characters. Try a longer term, or search by CPN or description instead of the manufacturer number.
- An item I expected is missing from the picker.
- Items that would create a loop are filtered out, so you cannot pick an invalid parent. Check whether it is already inside the assembly you are adding to.
Releasing
- "Nothing to commit."
- No item in the tree has unreleased changes. Edit something in the Staging Area first.
- "N item(s) need a release choice; the tree changed since this was loaded."
- Someone edited the BOM while your commit review was open. Reload the page and review again. Partix will not release a plan that no longer matches the tree.
- "X has never been numbered — pick a numbering subcategory for it."
- A first-ever commit needs to know which family the part number comes from. Set it on the item, or choose it in commit review.
- "X has never been released — its first commit takes v0.1.0, not a new version."
- A first release keeps the version the item was created at. Switch that row to Revision.
- "prefix-00042 was taken while this was open."
- Somebody else was given that number between your review loading and your commit. Reload and commit again, and the next number will be used.
- Revision is greyed out on a row.
- Something inside it took a new part number, so this item has to take a version too. Find the row further down the plan that started it. See Revision or version.
- I cannot remove a Forced row from the commit.
- That is intended. Its contents changed, so the record has to be issued again.
Sharing
- A recipient says the link does not work.
- It has expired or been revoked. Links are short-lived by design, so create a new one.
- Costs are missing from a shared page.
- Include costs was off. Costs are stripped before the page is sent, so an existing link cannot be changed to show them. Create a new link with the option on.
Still stuck

Send that to your Partix contact. The wording of the message points straight at the rule that stopped you.
