Pick material
Picking is where material actually leaves stock and enters the build. Up to this point the parts have been reserved but untouched.
What happens
A pick step raises a release against the stock already reserved for this build. The release holds specific lots and, when issued, writes a costed movement out of inventory and into the build.
The release records the quantity and cost of the stock issued to the build.
The reservation is already yours
Because stock was held when the order was created, the pick is not a competition. You are issuing parts that were set aside for this build, not hoping they are still there.
The release codes
Which code a step uses decides when material moves.
| Code | When material moves |
|---|---|
| WO-ISSUE-AUTO | At the pick. Material goes into the build as soon as it is issued |
| WO-ISSUE-MANUAL | At completion. Material is held and moves against real output |
The default release code does not require approval. Submitting the release approves it automatically, so the stock can be picked immediately.
Which to use
- Issue at the pick when you want to know where material is. It leaves stock when it physically leaves the shelf, so the build's consumption is visible while it is happening.
- Issue at completion when you want fewer postings. Material moves against what was actually produced, but the build's consumption is invisible until the end.
Pick and issue material
From the step, raise the release and confirm the lots. The quantities have to match what the step needs.
Once issued:
- The material's Issued column fills in on the Material tab.
- The cost moves with it — from then on the value sits with the build.
- The parts are out. They do not come back on their own.
Serial numbers
Where a part is serialised and its release code requires it, you name the exact units leaving. Those serials are recorded against the build.
Reversing a bad issue
If you issued the wrong lot or too much material, reverse the issue on its release. The reversal is recorded as a separate stock movement.
Cancelling the work order does not reverse issues
Cancelling gives back what was reserved and never issued. Anything already out stays out, and Partix names it on the Attention tab so you can reverse it properly. See Hold, resume and cancel.
