When material is short

When there is not enough stock, Partix adds the missing quantity to the purchase step.

What "short" means

When a work order is created, Partix reserves what it can from stock. Whatever the reservation could not cover is the shortfall.

It becomes purchase lines

The uncovered quantity is written straight onto the work order's purchase step. You do not raise anything by hand; the shortage arrives as the list of what has to be bought.

From there the purchase step is worked like any other: record what was ordered, and what arrived.

Creation can be refused

If there is a shortfall and the order has no purchase step to carry it, the order is not created. The message names the parts involved.

Stock may have changed between planning the build and saving the order. Review the updated plan and include a purchase step for any shortage.

Reload the plan and try again. The new plan will show the real position.

When stock turns up after all

A work order can live for weeks, and stock can arrive in that time. If it does, the purchase step can raise a release and take it rather than wait on an order that has not landed.

A release can only take stock that is genuinely free. Stock already reserved for this build's pick steps is invisible to it, so the two never claim the same units. You are borrowing from stock and letting the open order replenish it.

Nothing reconciles the borrowed units against the open order

Raising a release on a purchase step does not reduce, flag or cancel the purchase request behind it. The order still arrives in full, on top of the stock you took.

Adjust or cancel the purchase yourself if it is no longer needed.

Shortages after creation

A build can also go short later — if material is scrapped, or an issue is reversed.

The work order shows Short in the list and on its Attention tab, with how much is missing. Fix it by re-picking the release on the pick step once stock is available.

Seeing it coming

The material plan shows availability against every line before you create the order. Review shortages before saving. Adjust the quantity or dates if needed.

On the plan Means
Available covers Required The build can be fully reserved
Available is less The difference becomes purchasing work
Available is zero Nothing is on hand; the whole line has to be bought

Availability is not a promise until the order exists

The plan reads stock as it is right now. Between reading it and saving the order, somebody else can claim the same parts. The reservation at creation is the only thing that actually secures them.
