Create from inventory

Start a new item from parts you already hold, rather than building it up from nothing.

  1. In the inventory list, tick the parts you want to include.
  2. Select Create from Inventory in the toolbar.

The parts you ticked are carried through, so you are not searching for them a second time.

When to use it

When you are looking at the stock and you can see what the new item is made of. Picking the parts while they are in front of you is quicker and less error prone than creating the item first and searching for each part afterwards.

Selecting the right parts

Only the ticked rows come through, and the selection follows the filters. Filter to a category first if you are picking from a long list.

Check the tick boxes before selecting the action. A selection of nothing gives you nothing to work with.

The other direction

You can also work the other way round: create the item first, then add parts to it from inside the BOM. That is covered in Adding items to a BOM, and it is the better route when you know what you need but are not standing in the stockroom.

Neither is more correct. They differ in where you start.
