Glossary

Every term used in Partix inventory, in one place.

Term Meaning
Assigned Stock that has been placed in a location.
Available Stock you can use: held, not borrowed, not scrapped.
Borrowed Stock released out to a person and project, not yet returned.
Costing option The rule deciding what a part costs when batches were bought at different prices. FIFO, LIFO, weighted, moving or custom.
CPN Company part number. Your own identifier for a part.
Custom serial number A serial number entered by hand rather than generated.
Cycle count Correcting the recorded quantity to match a physical count.
Cycle count list A printable count sheet generated from the inventory list.
Downcount A cycle count where the counted figure is lower than the record.
Lot A batch of a part received together, tracked as a unit.
Location A place stock physically sits.
Location type The kind of place a location is, which decides the fields describing it.
MPN Manufacturer part number.
Part An item you buy or make.
PLM Product lifecycle management. The timeline of what has happened to a part.
Reason code Why a move or correction happened, recorded alongside it.
Relocate Move stock from one location to another.
Release Issue stock out to a person and project. Creates a borrow.
Revision One version of a part. Stock is held against a revision.
Scrap Write stock off by sending it to a location of type SCRAP.
Serialised A part tracked one unit at a time by serial number.
Serial number The identifier for one individual unit.
Stock How many units of a part revision you hold.
Sync serial numbers A repair action realigning recorded serial numbers with stock figures.
Transaction A recorded change to stock.
Unassigned Stock held but not yet placed in a location.
Vendor Who you buy a part from, which may not be who makes it.
