Relocate stock

Relocating moves stock that is already placed from one location to another.

Open the part, go to the Location tab, find the location holding the stock, and select Relocate on that row.

56-relocate.webpThe Relocate dialog, with the source location fixed and a destination to choose.

The steps

  1. Lot number. Shown only for lot tracked parts. Pick the batch you are moving.
  2. Source location. Filled in already and not editable. It is the row you started from, which is how Partix knows what you are moving.
  3. Destination location type. Choose the kind of place it is going to.
  4. Destination fields. Fill in whatever that type asks for.
  5. Quantity. How many units are moving. You can move some of what is there rather than all of it.
  6. Serial numbers. Shown only for serialised parts. Pick the exact units.
  7. Notes. Optional.
  8. Select the confirm action.

Relocate or assign?

The two are easy to mix up:

Use
Stock is unassigned and needs a home Assign
Stock is in a location and needs a different one Relocate

If you cannot see the stock you want to move on the Location tab, it is probably unassigned, and assign is the action you want.

Partial moves

You can split a holding by relocating part of it. Move four units of a twelve unit holding and you end up with two locations, eight and four. Totals for the part do not change, because nothing was consumed.

If the destination type is SCRAP

Relocating into a scrap location writes the stock off rather than moving it. The dialog relabels itself to make that clear. See Scrap stock.
